Cristina Concepcion has been at Don Congdon Associates since 1996 and represents writers of adult fiction, history, current events and narrative non-fiction and is also the foreign rights manager.
Following a career in journalism and public relations, Michael became a literary agent after he joined the Harold Matson Company in 1977. He left Matson in 1983 to start Don Congdon Associates, Inc., with his father, Don, of which he is now President. He has served on the Board of Directors, and as Literary Vice President, of the Association of Author’s Representatives (AAR, now AALA) and has been a member of the organization’s Ethics, International and Program committees. He has interest in, and represents, a variety of non-fiction, such as history, military history, biography, current affairs and narrative non-fiction (adventure, medicine, nature and science). While open to receiving new work by authors who have self-published previously, he is not interested in signing up works which, themselves, have already been self-published.
Katie began her career at Denise Marcil Literary Agency in 2005 and joined Don Congdon Associates as an agent in 2008. In non-fiction, she specializes in narrative non-fiction (particularly memoir, popular science, pop culture, and social/cultural issues), business (all areas), and self-help that focuses on success, motivation, and psychology. Katie is actively seeking new nonfiction clients with built-in platforms from whom she can learn something new. Katie accepts fiction queries by referral only. Katie served two terms on the Association of American Literary Agents’ Board of Directors. She is a member of the AALA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and is President of the non-profit Literary Agents of Change.
Maura traded in her legal briefcase for a manuscript bag and joined the Denise Marcil Literary Agency. In 2008, Maura became an agent with Don Congdon Associates. Maura represents writers of narrative non-fiction, women’s fiction, thrillers, young adult, middle grade and cookbooks. She is seeking literary works, women’s fiction, thrillers/suspense and she is especially interested in works for both the young adult and middle grade markets. As to non-fiction, Maura is seeking narrative works, books on popular science (especially space), cookbooks, lifestyle, and fun/interesting works that fall into the humor category. Maura is looking for diverse voices across the various genres she represents.
Susan started at Don Congdon Associates in 1986. She looks for literary fiction, upmarket 'book club' fiction (contemporary and historical, American in particular), and narrative non-fiction. Susan is drawn to an authentic voice, unforgettable characters with an edge, and an unfamiliar, well-crafted story that is emotional in unpredictable ways. For non-fiction, her interests include social history, cultural history, smart pop culture (fashion, food, art, music), women’s issues, and literary memoir with a distinctive theme. She particularly likes a narrative that combines a personal thread with reporting and analysis of a broader social or cultural issue. In everything, Susan appreciates a sense of humor, especially when it’s on the dark side. Please do not query Susan in the following categories: romance, sci-fi, fantasy, espionage, mysteries, politics, health/diet/fitness, self-help sports or children's (young adult, middle grade or picture book); and she does not represent screenplays. Susan served two terms on the AAR (now AALA) Board of Directors (2014-2018).
