AGENTS

We have been made aware of scams using our agency's likeness and/or agents' names that prey on aspiring authors. Please note that Don Congdon Associates never asks clients for reading fees or other upfront monetary compensation for our services.

We highly recommend checking out Writers Beware and Predators and Editors before approaching a literary agent/agency.

* All agents are members of the Association of American Literary Agents (AALA).

He left Matson in 1983 to start Don Congdon Associates, Inc., with his father, Don, of which he is now President. He has served on the Board of Directors, and as Literary Vice President, of the Association of Author’s Representatives (AAR, now AALA) and has been a member of the organization’s Ethics, International and Program committees. He represents a variety of non-fiction, such as history, military history, biography, current affairs and narrative non-fiction (adventure, medicine, nature and science).

Michael Congdon is no longer taking on new clients and is permanently closed to queries.

Katie is actively seeking new nonfiction clients with built-in platforms from whom she can learn something new. Katie accepts fiction queries by referral only. Katie served two terms on the Association of American Literary Agents’ Board of Directors. She is a member of the AALA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and is President of the non-profit Literary Agents of Change.

Maura Kye-Casella

Maura traded in her legal briefcase for a manuscript bag and joined the Denise Marcil Literary Agency.  In 2008, Maura became an agent with Don Congdon Associates.  Maura represents writers of narrative non-fiction, women’s fiction, thrillers, young adult, middle grade, picture books (author-illustrator only), and cookbooks. She is seeking literary works, women’s fiction, thrillers/suspense and she is especially interested in works with horror elements, speculative fiction and spooky reads overall for both the adult and children’s markets. As to non-fiction, Maura is seeking narrative works, books on popular science (especially space), astrology, tarot, cookbooks, lifestyle, and fun/interesting works that fall into the humor category. Maura is looking for diverse voices across the various genres she represents.

Susan Ramer

Susan started at Don Congdon Associates in 1986. She looks for literary fiction, upmarket 'book club' fiction (contemporary and historical, American in particular), and narrative non-fiction. Susan is drawn to an authentic voice, unforgettable characters with an edge, and an unfamiliar, well-crafted story that is emotional in unpredictable ways.  For non-fiction, her interests include social history, cultural history, smart pop culture (fashion, food, art, music), women’s issues, and literary memoir with a distinctive theme. She particularly likes a narrative that combines a personal thread with reporting and analysis of a broader social or cultural issue. In everything, Susan appreciates a sense of humor, especially when it’s on the dark side. Please do not query Susan in the following categories: romance, sci-fi, fantasy, espionage, mysteries, politics, health/diet/fitness, self-help sports or children's (young adult, middle grade or picture book); and she does not represent screenplays. Susan served two terms on the AAR (now AALA) Board of Directors (2014-2018).
